A Message from His Eminence, Cardinal George Pell

The Friends of St Mary’s Cathedral play an important part in supporting the life of St Mary’s Cathedral, the Mother Church of Australia and a magnificent national shrine in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary. St Mary’s has a special place in the life of our city and in the hearts of Catholics across Australia. It was built through the generosity and self-sacrifice of the Catholic Community, and The Friends of St.Mary's Cathedral continue this spirit in helping to ensure that the Cathedral remains a vibrant reflection of Catholic life and faith in our country. Helping to maintain the Cathedral as a place of prayer and worship is the responsibility and privilege of us all, and it was to further this work that The Friends of St Mary’s Cathedral was established. In becoming a Friend of St Mary’s Cathedral you will make an important and valued contribution to ensuring that the tradition of faith and service commenced in this city at the beginnings of European settlement will continue long into the future.

  Cardinal George Pell
Archbishop of Sydney
