Events without a hitch – Jennifer Foo

Jennifer Foo is responsible for many functions and events held at St Mary’s Cathedral.

Jennifer has been in the role since March 2016. Her previous career was in marketing communications and events for companies in Australia and overseas.

“I was in the same industry for quite a number of years and an opportunity arose to transition to this diverse role. St Mary’s Cathedral is also my parish so it was a perfect connection where the role and responsibilities fit my expertise while also providing work-life balance.”

Jennifer manages the end-to-end processes for events held in St Mary’s Cathedral.  She looks after daily enquiries and requests, in addition to the management of all liturgical events (Special Masses, Baptisms, Confirmations, Weddings, Funerals), group tour bookings, special projects, and other major Cathedral events from Australia Day to Sydney Open.

“I have a multi-purpose role since I am also responsible for the Cathedral’s Volunteer program in managing our various groups who support onsite.” (For more details about St Mary’s Cathedral’s Volunteer Program, click here).

One of the most satisfying parts of her job involves engaging with people, from clients who are visiting and holding an event at St Mary’s Cathedral to the many Cathedral volunteers.

“I love the people aspect. It is a carryover from my prior corporate career to being on staff at the Cathedral, and working with internal colleagues as well as external clients.”

“St Mary’s Cathedral to me is about connections. I am closer to both my faith and the community. I can step out during a break and go to Mass or listen to the Cathedral Choir or hear the Cathedral bells otherwise walk through Hyde Park or The Royal Botanic Gardens; it’s really a personal experience.”

Jennifer is on duty from Tuesday to Saturday.  She is the main point of contact for clients who utilise the Cathedral’s services and spaces, and ensures protocols are adhered to with any event booking.

“We have people from near and far visiting on a daily basis, and we want to engage with everyone coming to the Cathedral. We want St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney to be a welcoming environment for local parishioners and tourists just like any renowned Cathedral around the world,” she says.
