St Mary’s Cathedral Grand Organ Recital Series – 19th September 2023

Tuesday 19th September, 7.00pm: We are delighted to be welcoming LUC PONET for our next cathedral organ concert. Luc presides over the magnificent 1752 Le Picard grand organ and the 1997 Thomas transept organ in the ancient basilica of Tongeren, in eastern Flanders, Belgium. He is the City Organist of Leuven and Music Director at Alden Biesen Castle with its 1877 Van Peteghem organ, and will be playing a great programme of music by Bach, Widor, and Belgian composers. Come to hear and watch him play on Tuesday 19th September, 7.00pm, free admission

St Mary’s Cathedral Grand Organ Recital Series – Johann Vexo – 3rd May 2023

CELEBRITY ORGAN CONCERT! We are delighted that Johann Vexo, Choir Organist of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and Organist Titulaire of the great organ at Nancy Cathedral will be playing a recital here next week, Wednesday 3rd May at 7.00 p.m. Johann witnessed the catastrophic fire at Notre Dame, and will bring us some French music to enjoy, as well as Bach's great A-minor Prelude & Fugue. Free admission, as always, with a retiring collection.

Cathedral Organ Concert by Simon Nieminski – 1st December 2021

Wednesday 1st December at 7.00 p.m., our Assistant Director of Music, Simon Nieminski; will mark our return to organ concerts with the premiere of his 18-month-long lockdown project: an arrangement for organ of Rachmaninov’s monumental, tuneful and dramatic 2nd Symphony, one of the 20th Century’s greatest orchestral works. Admission will be free, with a retiring collection. All are very welcome, but owing to Public Health Orders at the time of writing, we are only permitted to admit to concerts those who have been FULLY VACCINATED.
